Rosa Aleen Courtney, age 88, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on December 26, 2019. Aleen was born on March 21, 1931 in North Carolina, she was the daughter of Clyde and Helen (Mease) Baynard. On December 26, 1947 she married George Courtney in Hendersonville, NC. Aleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons John and Phillip, and daughter Janis Ziminsky, sister, Alma Morgan and brother Ted Baynard. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Glen) Scafidi; grandchildren Rachel Elizabeth Ammon, Sean Eric Colburn, Lauren Annaleen Courtney; great grandchildren Alexis and Zoey Ammon and Sydney Colburn, sister Mary Helen Hyder, brothers, Edward Baynard, Lee Baynard and Chris Baynard. Aleen lived a full life devoted to family and her work as Food Service Director at Riverside Osteopathic Hospital. She found satisfaction and joy working with her team. Together they met the daily challenges of nourishing the bodies and at times the hearts of the ROH family. Education and hard work were very important to Aleen. She encouraged everyone to rise to their full potential and pursue their life goals. Aleen proudly obtained her own degree from the Detroit College of Business while working to send her son and daughter through college. She enjoyed a good book, a good fight, and developed a love hate relationship with her weekly crossword puzzles. Aleen loved cooking, baking, gardening and canning. She was happiest in her kitchen; looking out at her flowers while lovingly preparing her families favorite treats. Throughout her life Aleen loved and was loved. She will be missed and remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Friends may visit in the Bobcean Funeral Home, Flat Rock Chapel on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and a sharing of memories at 7:00 pm at the Funeral Home. A Memorial Celebration will be held at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, Huron Township, Michigan. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Forgotten Harvest and St. Jude Children's Hospital.
